India Dominates At US Open Pickleball Championship

Indian athletes put on a stellar performance at the recently concluded US Open Pickleball Championships, held in Naples, Florida (April 14-20). The team secured a remarkable 10 medals, showcasing India's rising talent in this fast-growing sport.
Leading the charge were Stavya Bhasin, Dhiren Patel, and Hemal Jain, each claiming a gold medal in their respective categories: Junior Singles, Men's Singles 5.0, and Men's Singles 3.5, respectively.
Bhasin wasn't done there, adding a silver in Men's Doubles 5.0 and two bronzes in Junior Men's Doubles and Junior Mixed Doubles, bringing her total to an impressive four medals.
Ronav Motiani also impressed, bagging two silver medals (Men's Doubles 5.0 and Junior Singles) and a bronze in Junior Men's Doubles. Himanshu Dewaskar's bronze in Men's Singles 5.0 pushed India's medal count to double digits.
While Harsh Mehta and Aman Bhatia narrowly missed out on a podium finish in Men's Pro Doubles, their fifth-place finish is a testament to the overall strength of the Indian contingent.
Pickleball Explained:
For the uninitiated, Pickleball is a paddle sport similar to badminton, played on a badminton-sized court with a solid paddle and a perforated plastic ball. Players volley the ball back and forth, aiming to score points by grounding it within the opponent's court.
The US Open Pickleball Championships, attracting over 3,000 players from 29 countries (aged 8 to 88!), is considered the pinnacle of competitive pickleball worldwide. This impressive Indian showing is a strong indicator of the nation's potential in this exciting sport.
