15-Year-Old Rape Survivor Hangs Herself After She Was Found Pregnant

The 15-year-old girl was discovered hanging at her residence. According to the teenager's relatives, she had been in great distress since learning about her pregnancy. Police stated that the suspect, a neighbour of the family, is currently evading capture, and efforts are underway to apprehend him.

In Mandya district of Karnataka, a grade 11th student who was earlier sexually assaulted died by suicide on Thursday, after finding out that she was pregnant.

Mandya SP N Yathish informed TOI that a 15-year-old girl was discovered hanging at her residence. According to the teenager's relatives, she had been in great distress since learning about her pregnancy. Police stated that the suspect, a neighbour of the family, is currently evading capture, and efforts are underway to apprehend him.

In a parallel occurrence, a 58-year-old visually impaired woman reportedly took her own life in Karnataka's Vijayanagara district in June, following an alleged rape incident. Authorities have detained the suspect, according to officials.

The police stated that the woman resided with her daughter and grandchildren in Vyasapura Thanda village within the jurisdiction of the Hagaribommanalli police station. On the evening of May 30, while the daughter was attending a wedding with her children, the 32-year-old accused, known to the family, visited the woman.

“As per the complaint, the accused raped her and threatened her against informing anyone,” said Hagaribommanalli police inspector B Manjunath.

Upon her daughter's return, she discovered her mother in a state of distress and immediately transported her to the Hagaribommanalli taluk government hospital on May 31, as stated by the inspector. Subsequently, hospital authorities notified the police, leading to the registration of a case. Manjunath mentioned that the woman identified the accused by name in her statement to the police at the hospital.

“We managed to arrest the accused and registered a case under IPC section 376 (rape),” the inspector said.

The woman was released from the hospital on Friday, and upon returning home, she reportedly ingested pesticide, resulting in her immediate demise.
