Bangalore: A 26-year-old social media influencer from Bengaluru got arrested after sharing reels on social media in which he was posing with fake AK-47 and bodyguards, police said on Tuesday.
The social media influencer, Arun Katare, was arrested by Kothanur police for causing public panic. Police had been closely monitoring his activities following reports of an individual seen carrying an AK-47.
Upon receiving a tip-off, police detained Katare. Following interrogation, he was charged for causing a public panic alarm with a simulated firearm. Katare was subsequently arrested under the Arms Act and Section 290 of IPC (now Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita).
The accused is seen flaunting jewellery and firearms on his Instagram page, often making reels with young women, luxury cars, and bikes at tourist spots.
Following Arun Katare's arrest, the Bengaluru city police posted a witty tweet on their official handle, stating, "Bangalore City Police doesn't just observe; we take action." They also shared a video demonstrating how likes can lead to handcuffs.
The individual, known for his ostentatious social media reels, now finds himself incarcerated in Parappana Agrahara.
