Karnataka: Five, Accused Of Gambling, Drown In Krishna River While Trying To Escape Cops

At least five people drowned while trying to escape police officials using a coracle in the Krishna River near Kholara in Vijaypura district on Tuesday evening. According to Times Now sources, there were 17 gamblers and as cops tried to approach them, 7 tried to escape on the coracle by crossing the Krishna River.

New Delhi: As many as five people were feared drowned while trying to escape using a coracle when police officials were after a group of people accused of indulging in gambling. The incident occurred near Kholara in Vijaypura district on Tuesday.

Rescue teams fished out bodies from the waters of the Krishna River.

According to Times Now sources, the incident occurred when some men jumped onto the coracle, scared that cops have arrived to arrest them for gambling.

Sources said that there were 17 gamblers. As cops tried to approach them, 7 tried to escape on the coracle by crossing the Krishna River. Meanwhile, 2 swam to safety and 3 bodies have been recovered.
