Delhi: Two Ghaziabad-based employees of a chartered accountant firm were robbed of Rs 50 lakh at gunpoint near Akshardham Temple in East Delhi, police said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in Pandav Nagar, just a few metres away from the temple, during the afternoon, stated a police officer, as per the PTI report.
Mohit Sharma and Arun Tyagi, the victims, were going towards Ghaziabad on a motorcycle after collecting money from someone in West Delhi. As they approached National Highway-9 near the temple, a prominent city landmark with high foot traffic, four men on two motorcycles intercepted them, brandishing guns.
Attempting to flee, Sharma and Tyagi were struck by the robbers' bikes, causing them to fall onto the road. In the ensuing chaos, one of the assailants lost balance and also fell. Meanwhile, the other three seized the bag containing the cash and fled the scene, leaving the fourth robber behind. Passersby and commuters managed to apprehend the fourth robber and handed him over to the police.
