Kolkata: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall across West Bengal starting from Friday, attributing it to strong southwesterly winds originating from the Bay of Bengal. According to the weather office, coastal areas may experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds blowing at speeds of 30-40 km/h.

The weather forecast for the upcoming days in this region indicates generally cloudy skies with occasional spells of rain or thundershowers. On June 28, 29, 30, and July 1, temperatures are expected to range between 26 degrees Celsius to 33 degrees Celsius, with similar weather patterns persisting. However, specific details for July 2 onwards are not available. By July 3 and 4, there is a likelihood of rain or thundershowers, with temperatures staying around 27 degrees Celsius to 32 degrees Celsius.
Over the next five days, north Bengal districts including Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Coochbehar are expected to receive widespread rain with isolated heavy downpours ranging from 7 to 11 cm. In south Bengal, districts such as South 24 Parganas and Medinipur are also likely to witness isolated instances of heavy rainfall due to the influence of these strong winds.
Cities like Kolkata, Howrah, North 24 Parganas, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia are forecasted to receive light to moderate rainfall compared to other areas in the region.
The IMD has advised residents and authorities to stay updated with weather alerts and take necessary precautions during this period of expected inclement weather.
