Ghaziabad: Trains on the country’s first Namo Bharat rapid rail corridor will soon operate from Sahibabad to Meerut South cutting the travel time by 30 minutes. The commissioner of metro rail safety (CMRS) has approved the third section of the corridor after Sahibabad- Duhai and Duhai-Modinagar North for commercial operations.
This section of 8km from Modinagar North to Meerut South will increase the span of train operations to 42km, which is above the 50 percent mark of the 80km Delhi-Meerut corridor, likely to be completed by mid-2025, a TOI report said.

The report added that Meerut South will be the district’s first station on the rapid rail corridor which will also have metro services. Out of 13 stations of the Namo Bharat Corridor in Meerut, four are for rapid rail and nine others are part of the local metro corridor.
NCRTC has developed the state’s largest parking facility at the stations - spanning over 13000 sqm to accommodate 1200 vehicles at a time. After becoming operational, the benefits of the rapid rail corridor are mostly being borne by the students.
Ghaziabad and Meerut being the industrial and educational hubs had limited traveling options, but due to rapid rail, many are finding it easy to commute. Also, the travel time from Meerut to Delhi’s Patparganj has also reduced significantly.
