'Main Zinda Hoon Saheb': Madhya Pradesh Man, Decalared 'Dead', Appears In Government Office
In January 2022, a 102-year-old resident of Rohtak led a wedding-like procession as he went to meet government officials to prove he was alive. Dhuli Chand sat on a chariot in his wedding finery, wearing garlands of Indian rupee notes, and held a placard, in the local dialect: "thara foofa zinda hai", which literally translates to "your uncle is alive" as he visited the government office.
Ironically, Jagdish Kushwaha has cast his vote in the Lok Sabha elections.
Bhopal: In a shocking case of lapse on the part of the administration in Madhya Pradesh, a person declared "dead" was forced to make rounds of government offices to prove that he is alive. The shocking case come to light in Rewa.
Jagdish Kushwaha, who lives in Majhiyari village, has been making rounds of the government offices with a placard 'Main Zinda Hoon Saheb' in his hand since 2021. He resorted to the antic after his past visits to the government offices did not yield results.
Kushwaha was told that he was declared dead in 2021 when he went to the Municipal Council office for his old age pension. The employee posted at the office told him that since he was "dead", he was not entitled to pension. Since then he has been running from pillar to post to "come back alive".
Ironically, Jagdish Kushwaha has cast his vote in the Lok Sabha elections. "If my husband is dead then how has he cast his vote," his wife asked.
So far, Kushwaha's efforts to prove himself alive has not yielded any positive results. This, despite the villager having all the necessary documents as proof of his life certificate.
However, after the matter came to light, the administration has realised the error. The department has sent officials to his residence and, taking action as per the rules, have started the process of making him "alive again" on paper so that he could get the benefits of all the schemes of the government.
This is not the first such incident to be reported in India.

It was only after Chand antic that the authorities finally admitted their mistake and released Chand's pension.
